Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Mouse?

Besides me...I'm more grossed out than afraid. Two things maybe three make me cringe mice, birds and I guess I have to admit snakes too. But Friday I found out that my big bad dogs that chase birds and rabbits that dare to enter our yard are afraid of a little mouse.

I discovered the mouse Thursday evening and it reappeared in my living room Friday morning. I was working in my upstairs office and the dogs all three of them were barking their fool heads off. Barking the way they were is not a normal occurrence in my house. It happens when the odd stranger walks down our street but only lasts for a few big barks and then my big bad dogs go back to their naps. But this barking continued on and on and had an excited tone that I've heard when they go after a bird or rabbit. I come down my stairs and what do I see but three dogs standing on my couch and they're not barking at the window they're looking at the floor as they bark. I look and right in the middle of my living room is this little mouse twitching its little nose. At this moment I'm not thinking cute, I thinking bone aching gross!

I had to be strong, I could not show my fear, so I bravely stepped over the baby gate on the stairs and as quiet as I could went to fetch an empty coffee can. I came back and the little giant was still their twitching its whiskers at my dogs who were now whimpering. I stepped lightly and as close as my fear would allow and tried to trap the mouse but alas it was too fast for me and escaped to the kitchen and beneath my stove.

This morning the mouse is still at large. The traps are set. Now it's a waiting game. The barking wimps from Friday are dozing on their beds dreaming of an unlimited supply of chew toys.

Until next time Woof, Woof, and a Roo.
