It’s the middle of April and I haven’t blogged since the beginning of March. My excuse is that I’ve been sick. I’m still sick although I don’t feel sick. Until a week ago I was still coughing and not getting any quality sleep. That changed on April 1st when I made a trip to my emergency room. I couldn’t stop coughing and I couldn’t breathe. It wasn’t much different than any other day or night except that the medicines I was given to control the symptoms wasn’t working. I arrived at the ER and was taken quickly for treatment even though I walked in under my own steam.
In the end I spent four hours in the ER and was sent home with stronger meds. I followed up with my doctor on Tuesday and received the results of a CT scan done last Monday and received news no one wants to hear. I definitely have the beginnings of emphysema and then the doctor also said you have possible lung cancer! But we’ll need to wait another six months to see if the possible tumors on your lungs change. Yeah right! Bad doctor :( Like I’m going to sit on my ass and wait six months for possible tumors to grow! I got a second opinion and this doctor agrees with me that waiting is not an option. There are other tests that can be run and now they will be. Instead of waiting six months on the CT scan I will have another performed in three months, but I will most likely have another chest x-ray performed in the next three weeks. I will not wait and see.
I still have a cough but I’m able to control it for now and I’ve actually gotten more than 6 hours of sleep a night over the last week in my own bed! Tomorrow I visit an Asthma and Allergy Specialist to better learn how to control and live with the adult onset asthma I have partly because of the emphysema. I’m taking charge of my health the way I took charge of my writing and that is no excuses. In the case of my health it’s get off my ass and get moving. I will chronicle my journey at my In Search Of blog and occasionally I will put a link here.
In short I plan to blog more regularly. Until next time good writing!
I was wondering why you hadn't written in so long. I hope the results come back with good news. Waiting for results and getting second opinions doesn't sound like fun.
