Hitting The Freelance Trail Again

I wrote my blog entry yesterday and forgot to post it. I was
sidetracked by e-mail, reading research material I found for an article I plan
to propose to several regional parenting magazines. While my entry was nothing
earth shattering forgetting to post it makes me wonder what else I've
forgotten.

I'm trying to get back into the freelance game of queries
and writing articles, but this time with a specific niche in mind, dogs. While
I'm not a novice dog owner, I can sympathize with the first time owner because
I was a first-time puppy owner last November and it was nothing like adopting
an older dog from the shelter or a rescue organization. I have a list of almost
25 topics on dogs that I plan to write from the perspective of the first-time
dog or puppy owner. I queried my local paper about a column on dog breeds and
our neighbors who own them with the hope that the column will help perspective
owners on choosing the right dog for their lifestyle. Most people know the
wonderful side of owning a dog, but tend to ignore or just not fully understand
all that is involved with owning a dog. I'm still learning.

I understand now why my dad always said no to a dog when I
was a kid, he knew the brunt of the care and responsibility would fall on his
and my mother's shoulders and now as an adult I appreciate his stance even
though I now own three dogs with the forth coming in September or October. I am
still amazed with all the information out that people still believe that dogs
belong outside and not in the house with the family or that they have to use
the old harsh training methods to train their dogs. The biggest surprise or
should I say the one the makes me laugh out loud is when someone says they want
a dog like Lassie and then turn to their dog and say how dumb he is. Well, you
can't have a dog like Lassie unless you commit to training your dog everyday
for the rest of its life, Lassie wasn't born obedient.

Anyway, I'm hitting the freelance trail on a mission to
educate my community about dogs and while I am writing on the subject I expect
to continue learning myself.
