I really have a teenager now. Well, I’ve had a teen for
almost two years but it really hit me the other week when she asked to
redecorate her room. My little girl has outgrown her Harry Potter room design.
She wants something fresh and completely her own style and she’s going to get
it with some help from me. Most of my help will come in monetary form, but
she’ll have to put up with me painting and being present when she makes her
design choices. The last time her room was done I did most of it, this time she’s
the designer. I always wanted to do this when I was her age, so I am giving her
the chance I didn’t have. So far she has chosen her new bedding, once that
comes she’ll finalize her color choices for paint. If all goes well she’ll have
her redesigned and redecorated bedroom finished by her birthday in July. I’m
kidding (DD) but I’m not kidding about this being your birthday present ;-)
Last night my book club gathered to discuss Dave Barry’s The
Shepherd, the Angel, and Walter the Christmas Miracle Dog. All of enjoyed the book, but we didn’t so
much discuss the book; we shared memories that the book brought back to each of
us. Some of us lived the era he describes and others of us grew up with
siblings who remember. We also had our first holiday cookie exchange. We each
brought three dozen cookies and we all went home with three dozen variety.
Thankfully my thighs won’t suffer too much because my kids and husband will eat
them. It was fun tasting what everyone baked. I highly recommend doing a cookie
exchange if you’ve never done one and I highly recommend Dave Barry’s little
Christmas book for not only the laughs, but the nostalgia.
Our next book club Glass Castle
read is The Three Junes, by Julia Glass after that we’ll be reading
and then The Count of Monte Cristo. Three very different books and I’m eager to
read them all.
reading and writing!
