10 Ways I Show My Dog That I Am A Responsible Dog Owner

By M. Dupie, Third Grade

I am a responsible dog owner because I do many things for my dogs. I
train my dogs to sit, lie down and come. I have taught them tricks like weaving
through my legs, to give me paw and high five.

I help walk my dogs two times a day and
show friends and strangers how to pet my dogs so they don’t get scared. My mom
feeds them in the morning and I sometimes help at night. It's not my favorite
doggy chore but I scoop my dog’s poop from our yard everyday so they don't get
sick and we don't step in it. I help my
mom and dad take them to the vet to make sure they’re not sick.

My dogs are spayed and neutered so that
they don't make any unwanted puppies. I helped pick out comfortable
beds for my dogs to sleep on. But the most important things I do as a
responsible dog owner are to love them like family and treat them with
kindness.

Yesterday my daughter received her second place ribbon at
the Fredericksburg Dog Festival and the above essay is her winning entry. What
a neat moment for her and the rest of our family. She proudly walked up with
our dog Dexter to receive her ribbon and the smile on her face was worth every
hour we spent at the festival.

My older daughter took Josie our Beagle/Basset mix in the
ring and won Best Spots, tried her hand at obedience in the Simon Says game but
was eliminated early. All in all it was an enjoyable day!
